Lisbon School

Today i went to talk to the sixth and seventh grade classes at Lisbon Middle School. i talked to them about how we found out about the Chikumbuso project, and how it all started. i showed them a slide show that Linda gave to us, and talked about the different slides. I then talked about the Chikumbuso club at our school, and the fundraising that we do. Such as the haunted house, the 24 hour run, the polar bear dive, and all the other things. Then i talked about the different things that Pawcatuck middle school has done, to try and give them ideas of things that they can do at their school.

ITHUTENG

i recently watched a documentary on HBO called Ithuteng, it was about this school in Africa who took the worst students from the local schools, and helped them out. It was really cool the approach they had to changing these kids lives. Most of the kids had been raped, parents had died, had been in gangs, or just had a horrible life. This school helped them to get past their problems and make good decisions. It was great how this school helped them.
The movies really shows what it is like for the kids to grow up in Africa, with the violence and poverty. It it really interesting, you should check it out. http://www.hbo.com/docs/programs/ithuteng/index.html

Hi from Carly

I'm starting this blog as part of my high school senior project. I'm going to be researching AIDS and going to Africa in the spring to work with AIDS orphans and widows. I will periodically be adding news about things i have learned, or ways that you can learn more about the project. So you can check in and see how I'm doing when ever i post more news.
